As of the date of this writeup, the link RealPlayer 8 for "Media player for Macintosh customers" incorrectly sent the user to the RealOne Player page.

Clicking on the RealPlayer 8 link for "Media player for UNIX and Linux customers" will give you a form page. After you enter all fields, click on Go to download and instructions page to select the download server, then follow the directions for downloading and installing. For a MAC, the file is approximately 7 MB.

Streaming Audio

Streaming audio of music or radio station broadcasts can be heard with RealPlayer on either MAC, PC, Unix or Linux systems. The short music clips (indicated by  Music  can be played with RealPlayer simply by a click on the link.

RealPlayer can be set up for streaming so that the music starts without waiting for the complete file to be downloaded on a low-bandwidth internet connection such as a 28K or 56K dial-up line. On a MAC or PC, open RealPlayer, then select View, Preferences, Connection (tab), Buffered play, then insert a number between 4 and 20 in the line "Buffer at least __ seconds before playing" and click OK. Some experimentation may be necessary to find the best value. For best results, the browser memory may have to be increased to allow both RealPlayer and the browser to work at the same time.

If you do not have enough memory for both RealPlayer and your browser, you must first download the music file(s) with the browser, close the browser, then start RealPlayer to play the music. In this case, you will not be able to take advantage of the streaming feature.
